Is anyone successfully using sys-gui-gpu?

I’m trying to get sys-gui-gpu set up on an X230. Whatever I do I get a black screen, and the current threads I’ve seen are all but one unhelpful, and I’m trying to decode the last one since there seems to be an error with a bunch of repeated posts.

Has anybody successfully gotten it working?

Hello,

I gave sys-gui a try several times in the last 3 or 4 years.
Unfortunately it never was really usable.
While I was able to follow the documentation to install it and was also able to login into the sys-gui X session, I always had issues with the application menu.
It seemed empty and all other AppVMs, NetVMs, Templates were invisible.
All suggestion to populate it by running a sync app menus again didn’t work.
It seems also that feedback regarding any problems with sys-gui is not that much which is an indicator to me that very likely not much users are running it.
Also when seeking help in the Telegram group the answer rate is low.
Seems to me that it’s not ready for production and that documentation is missing. I’d like to add the missing part to the documentation if I am able to solve my problems. But currently it seems like a chicken egg situation.

I got it to work, but I found it pretty useless and it’s a bit clunky.

I’m occasionally using sys-gui-vnc though.

I also got sys-gui to work and fixed the problem that I couldn’t see any qubes in the qubes menu by changing the default guivm from dom0 to sys-gui something which is not stated in the docs:

qubes-prefs default_guivm sys-gui

Then the qubes appear after a reboot or logout/login.

I then tried to run sys-gui-gpu but found the problem that there is no option on the login page to choose sys-gui-gpu as window manager.

on sys-gui-gpu, dom0 display shuts down and you enter into sys-gui-gpu
