just out of curiosity why go with the discord over something like vesktop or goofcord?

A lot of people are suggesting creating a modified template just for installing Discord. But also remember that you can just create a standalone VM based on one of the existing templates. In my case, I made a standalone VM based on Debian 12. Then, in there, I simply installed Discord via flatpak.
I haven’t had any issues with it so far.

they are FOSS discord front-end clients that off more customization and privacy
