Every time install qubes it lacks any templates or apps besides dom0. This is a fresh build with a virgin system I only want qubes on. I just slapped this account together due to frustration and am not new to the qubes installation hurtles but I’m stuck. Please help all mighty powerful community members!

Have you tried to open a dom0 terminal and running the initial setup like:
sudo /usr/libexec/initial-setup/initial-setup-graphical
?
Yes i think it said something like command unknown sorry I meant to mention additional troubleshooting attempts. I tried to DD the file to a bootable USB also.

How far along the installation do you get?
If you hover your mouse over a heading, it will show a link you can copy to mark “I get to this point” and if there are screens you don’t see, you can share the links for the parts you didn’t get to.
Can you check what reply you got to the command:
sudo /usr/libexec/initial-setup/initial-setup-graphical
from a dom0 terminal (after the first boot from - Installation guide — Qubes OS Documentation) ?
That is perplexing, it has happened to me before but all I had to do was reinstall and it just worked
In the cases that this did happen to me I got a crush window popping up during template setup at first boot after installation
Edit: try to be PRESENT during the first boot/template setup after you finish flashing with the USB, you might have a problem with how your CPU goes to sleep when the screen turns off, I had a similar problem with an Acer laptop in an arch Linux install where my package manager crashed when I updated it and my screen turned off, maybe the bios treats screen states as a detection to go to a lower power state just be present, have a hand on the trackpad and move the mouse every minute or so, it should take roughly 20-30 minutes, if it turns out it IS the CPU sleep and monitor issue you can open a different post later and well tey to help you, maybe xen power
Edit 2: follow Chris’s advise, first go to xdce settings and turn off the screen sleep mode and then initiate the command he gave you
The screen where you select the USB options and wether you want Debian or Fedora structure isn’t even coming up. M going to try a fresh install for the 1000 x and I’ll try to paint a picture or set the scene or w/e you know what I mean as if you were right there with me. Bare with me reinstall initiated!
Oh no you didn’t really have to, like I said you could have tried going with Chris’s advice as a starting point and just make sure the laptop’s screen didn’t turn off do we could rule out a bios or hardware issue/configuration
I had that thought also since on my intial ramp up it would give me a VGA output error code if the screen timed out. Btw my build is amd thread ripper 9970x on an Asus pro ws trx50-sage wifi A fresh clean slate besides these attempts to install qubes. I essentially drained my 401k went all in (never built a pc before) to have a tool with limitless potential powered by qubes to achieve many lifelong goals. So that’s whats fueling my devestation & frustration
Shouldn’t there be more options then this under software selections?
It gets all the way through instructed to reboot and when you log back in they system appears to be operational but lacks any templates or apps

I’m pretty sure, that image is from the stage around the step
– in that case, I don’t recall any options.

If the machine reboots and let you unlock the drive and makes it to a graphical login, then the only step that somehow failed, was the Initial Setup:
Is this correct?
If so, you should be able to open a dom0 terminal, and run the Initial Setup manually with:
sudo /usr/libexec/initial-setup/initial-setup-graphical
If that command fails, snap a photo of the error message and share the image - you might have to resize the terminal window (width, hight) to have the full message
It’s skipping the initial setup section for some reason. I tried another distro just to put something on the system and it just made me more aggravated. I’m going to try this one again now.
I got that command to work when I installed the 3.0 version!!! Installing templates now! Should be able to just upgrade to current releases now right?

Try verifying the installation media to the iso:
.. as I recall, depending on how you wrote the ISO to the installation media (tool/options used), the verification might fail, on a perfectly good media.
[Edit: To be more precise: The test from boot menu on the installation media might fail – where verification of the installation media as described on the link (like dd if=/dev/sdX bs=1M count=<SIZE> iflag=count_bytes | gpg -v --verify Qubes-RX-x86_64.iso.asc) confirms the correctness of the installation media.
So if you verify the installation media with the dd command and the result is a correct, then it doesn’t matter that the boot menu complains about it]
So I just tried to flash the latest version and it gave some error code right at the beginning of installation. Is that what you mean? It wouldn’t let me get any further than that though.

If you booted from a Qubes OS 4.3 USB-stick and selected “Verify media” (or the similar named option) and it then throw the error that “verification failed”, then try booting either the default/top option or the ‘kernel latest’.

Ya I can on that original post all though I’m not 100% how that went away. Lol this is a whole other sysnet issue I think. I’ve lost so connection now. I’m re installing again for the 9999x hoping it’ll just go away. Idk how to troubleshoot this type of issue.
