Chrome OS Flex is a bin file so I think I probably need to convert
I think if I write to the actual flash drive with BalenaEtcher it will be successful, but I have to create a loopback device and write to it with the dd command, right?
Can I solve it by running the qemu-img convert?
This might help:
Hi there, I tried booting into a newly created Linux-HVM copied from an .ova-file which resulted in SEABIOS throwing an error: No bootable device.
I followed this guide: Standalones and HVMs | Qubes OS (last paragraph).
Now this is a linux-based OS and the guide is dealing with a windows-based OS, however, the creation of the HVM should basically be the same.
[user@dom0 ~]$ qvm-run --pass-io <source-vm> 'cat "/home/user/challenge.raw"' > ./challenge.img
[user@dom0 ~]$ md5sum challenge.img

What does file <name-of-chromeOS-file>.bin give you on the command line?

Although it has a .bin as extension for it’s filename could it be safely assumed to be an ISO?

Hi there.
IMHO it isn’t…
Hi there.
I think it’s not a good suggestion for all cases.
i.e.: chromeOS derived distro are .img, but inside there’s on a full GPT layout with several partitions for firmware, kernels, system data and the writable stateful area. That structure cannot be preserved inside an ISO without breaking boot compatibility across devices.
So conversion to .iso is impossible in these cases (I learned it in the hard way! ).
