I installed Qubes some days ago and all seems cool, but I can’t figure out why I’m not able to apply app vm themes properly, despite trying everything.
For fedora xfce for example, I downloaded a theme Colloid(Colloid gtk theme - Eyecandy for your XFCE-Desktop - xfce-look.org) and placed the theme file in the /usr/share/themes/ in the template(that’s not crucial at the moment) along with installing sassc and other dependency, don’t remember what it was, but can check what it was if needed.
The problem is that when I switch themes, I don’t see the round corners in the sidebar(just an example) and many other things don’t applied as well, just the general color change and that’s about it.
By default most of the interface is hosted in dom0. This includes wallpaper, xfce panels, and window manager (which means both window behaviour and window borders).
Generally, it works this way: dom0 runs window manager, but the contents of windows are taken from domUs. See docs for a better explanation:
You will need to keep this architecture in mind when installing themes and change installation procedure accordingly.
There are guides on how to do theming in qubes you can check to become more familiar with it:
There’s link in the OP, you can click and see exactly what sidebar. There’s only one sidebar in these screenshots.
Also, there’s no any relation in these links that can somehow help me with my situation - why post them?
Anyway, I figured out I need to use nautilus for these kind of styles to be applied, however I still can’t apply the theme with terminal. gsettings/xfconf-query and other things don’t apply on nautilus at all.
There’s also some nasty close/minimize buttons duplication that I can’t get rid off.
Why the hell is this so undocumented how to do such simple things as this or is it just not possible/meant?
Sorry but I still might be missing it. I can only see horizontal panels at the top and the bottom, some windows and a menu in top right corner. Is this what you refer to?
Gui virtualisation is what I think would be most useful to you, considering issues with theme application. Other links are there just FYI.
Only close/minimize? From what I assume your problem is, whole window border should be duplicated. Can you post a screenshot?
It is not valuable enough for current users. Although you can see some very pretty theming in “Adding discreet XFCE borders to themes”. If you feel enthusiastic about it, please consider writing a guide
