Remarks

  • Installation Medium: ISO was installed via thumb drive downloaded using Rufus on windows
  • Modifications?: I have not made any alterations to BIOS beyond installation guidelines.
  • Initial Install: I did it the day after download, so I forgot the note that says:

Using Rufus to create the installation medium means that you won’t be able to choose the “Test this media and install Qubes OS”

I’ll call this ‘fail-case testing’. The download failed at 4.8%, it also locked me out of peripherals so I couldn’t interact with the system in any way. Eventually I had to use the devices hardware interrupt to shut it down and reboot.

  • Second Install: Seamless, it downloaded and installed successfully.
  • Hardware Systems: Keyboard, touchpad, volume & brightness controls, network adapter all worked without issue. Touchscreen does not work, but I never cared to use it. Webcam and mic are detected, but I have not tested them yet.
  • Qubes Systems: Most systems have worked without any issues. I have noticed sys-whonix consuming a lot of resource despite not being active in any qube or template, this has caused overheating while watching video at times. Attempting to shut down the system will freeze the process, requiring it to be killed to close out. At the moment I’m unsure where the issue comes from and is not consistent.
  • Self Systems: Currently setting up a sys-vpn with wireguard, and seem to get connection success, yet qubes using it as a net provider can’t seem to access internet. This could be my own issue, so I will update after it is sorted.
  • Errors?: Occassional error notification of nature ‘GDBus mode ‘Hibernate’ not supported’ after lock screen, no hinderance to usability.
  • Impacts?: Watching video tends to lag and stutter, especially for longer viewing
