Both Fedora 42 xfce beta and Qubes OS installed without any work arounds. This is not a dual boot system. I installed Fendora 42 xfce beta first and then installed Qubes OS 4.3 beta over it. Qubes OS 4.3 is the soul operating system on this machine. Both OSs recognized the cpu, gpu, nvme, usb devices and the wifi-7 during installation.

Both the 10 Gb & 2.5 Ethernet as well as both the the thunderbolt 4 & 5 are recognized by Qubes OS with the latest kernel (6.14.0) .

Some folk might think I must be crazy for building a desktop computer like this for running linux and admittedly I probably am …

A Little Bit Crazy

Hi @Dutch,

I’m trying to get Qubes OS running on very similar hardware to yours and came across this HCL report. I’m hoping you can help!

My Hardware

  • CPU: Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX (Arrow Lake-HX, 24 cores: 8P+16E)
  • GPU: Intel Arrow Lake-S Graphics [8086:7d67] + NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti [10de:2f18]
  • Chipset: Intel 800 Series (WM880) [8086:7d1c]

Your Hardware (that works!)

  • CPU: Intel Core Ultra 9 285K (Arrow Lake-S, 24 cores: 8P+16E)
  • GPU: Intel Arrow Lake-S Graphics [8086:7d67] + NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070
  • Qubes: R4.3-alpha, Xen 4.19.1, Kernel 6.14.0

My Problem

I’ve tried multiple Qubes versions and they all fail:

  • 4.3-rc versions (rc1, rc3, rc4): Boot loop with APIC ID mismatch errors
  • 4.2.4: Installs but can’t initialize graphics (no /dev/dri/card0)
  • Custom builds (Xen 4.20.2 + kernel 6.17.9): Black screen, Xen fails to start

Questions

  1. Where can I get the Qubes 4.3-alpha ISO you used? I can’t find it on the downloads page.
  2. Did you use any specific BIOS settings? (E-cores enabled/disabled, IOMMU settings, etc.)
  3. Did you use any special boot parameters at installation, or truly no workarounds?
  4. What BIOS version are you running?
  5. Did you install with integrated graphics only or with both GPUs active?

Your setup is the closest I’ve found to working Arrow Lake hardware with similar core configuration. Any guidance would be hugely appreciated!

Thanks! Kind Regards, Bloged
