So I really apologize in advance, I’m having a hard time putting this into words but I hope I can do my best.
I recently moved from Qubes 4.2.4 to Qubes 4.3.0 the day it dropped. I used backups of my existing AppVMs, but setup my templates from scratch (Fedora 42 and now 43 minimal). Ever since I migrated, I’m experiencing intermittent issues with Snap packages. The three main ones I use are Signal, Element, and Brave. Signal I haven’t had any issues with, 10/10. Brave I have smaller issues with. It’s like I have to reinstall it via snap in the AppVM every time I reboot, but once I do it works fine for that session. Tbh I may move back to Firefox so I’m less worried about this, but it’s still worth noting.
Element is the real pain, though, because every time I boot it up, it says “We encountered an error trying to restore your previous session. Clearing your browser’s storage may fix the problem, but will sign you out and cause any encrypted chat history to become unreadable.” My only real option is to clear storage and sign out, but I have to do it every time and half the rooms I’m in are encrypted so I lose a lot of chats.
I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail. In one case I even made a whole new AppVM and migrated over. Nothing seems to be working. I would say this is some kind of Element issue, but given the fact that I’m also having issues with Brave, I want to say it’s something with Qubes and Snap, but then the fact that Signal is working fine… I don’t know. I’m really stumped. I don’t even know where to begin trying to dig into this.
I did some web searching, I did some searching on the forums, but I haven’t found anything quite like what I’m describing. Is this a known issue? Where would I begin to investigate? Thanks in advance for any help, happy to answer any questions as best I can.
