Has download speed for dom0 updates been improved, or is it just me?

It used to take literal half an hour (or an hour) for QubesOS to check and download the updates to its dom0 system (I always route the updates over Tor). But now, especially with QOS4.2, the dom0 updates only take 5 minutes or so to check and download if any available ones.

I remember I used to have to leave the computer running for the night if I wanted to check/install the updates

For me, it was since 4.2.0, when the new GUI update machine did updates that quick. I’m sure the update speed has been improved, althrough I think it will depend on somebody’s tor connection too. For me (in Germany) it’s really quick now and no overnight update orgies needed anymore.

The overall update workflow has been improved a lot recently. I have covered the details in the Weekly Newsletter.

I noticed the speed improvement too! So went and double-checked every time that the Dom0 updates are (still) going through sys-whonix

Thanks @alimirjamali for explaining what happened! and thanks for taking time to summarize the Qubes updates in your weekly review… which I forgot about.
