Has anyone created a template VM for checking security?

For example, a PDF check template to identify security breaches in a PDF document.

I have created a disposable VM, with sys-whonix for the network, which incorporates wireshark.

I just wondered if anyone else has thought further about security testing VMs. Qubes seems to be an ideal platform.
