I see some information in: GUI virtualization | Qubes OS
If I understand it, when qubes is sending the video of the X11 applications to dom0 (or sys-gui) for seamless windows, it is not using the X11 protocol (what ssh users would call “X11 forwarding”, or Xpra, but qubes has written their own thing.
I’m curious with a intention of going to “Qubes Air”, is the intention to create a custom network-transparent protocol? Or would qubes repurpose one of the preexisting protocols?
Since, as I understand it, Wayland is designed to be not network transparent, will this cause a problem if the distros move to Wayland?
