I was really surprised by the fact that CTRL + ALT + left/right arrow can switch workspaces in QubesOS 4.2.3. Since most QubesOS users are running laptops with 1080p screen resolution, it might be especially interesting to find a good way to map this shortcut to the three-finger swipe gesture on touchpads. This would allow you to have two full-screen application windows on two virtual workspace and switch between them as easily as GNOME.
As far as I know, such a touchpad gesture is not natively supported by XFCE, and QubesOS has its own overhead in many cases. Has anyone found a solution to make the swipe gesture possible? Would you agree that such a feature is worth pursuing?
I agree with you. It also has quite a few stars and is also packaged (accepted) by many other distributions. I am currently traveling, but will try it out and keep you updated as soon as I am back in my office with my testing machine.
Would love to get an update if you managed to get this working well - I agree that three-finger swipe gestures for switching workspaces (like in e.g. Pop OS) would be an awesome unlock!
I still haven’t found the time. The task is still on my to-do list. I’ll keep you posted if I manage to test it within the next decade. Sorry for the delay. On a positive note, I read the new Qubes 4.3 release notes and was happy to see that Kloak, a keystroke-level online anonymization kernel, was added. I don’t think a multi-gesture tool like Touchegg would necessarily cause privacy issues because it doesn’t input into a VM; rather, it manages the general desktop environment (just my speculation). However, it would require time and attention to verify that.
