Experience with Thinkpad P1 Gen 6/7? Alternatives?

Hi, does anyone have experience with the recent Thinkpad P1 models, either (current) Gen7 or (previous) Gen6? I see the HCL reports mention a couple issues - graphics in installer, and suspend. I had issues with graphics in the installer on other laptops too, but the suspend seems worrying.

But perhaps this is resolved with Gen6/Gen7? I see Lenovo claims those G6/G7 laptops are “certified” with Linux, and I’ve seen the Gen6 available with Fedora/Ubuntu, presumably Gen7 will be available too …

But perhaps someone has better information?

I’m asking because I’ll need a new laptop / workstation, to replace the Dell 5540 I have at the moment. So I’m looking for options, and I’m a bit picky. Large screen (15.6"+), reasonable CPU, 64GB of RAM. But I’d very much prefer a laptop without a discrete GPU, and everyone all but stopped making those, apparently. The other challenge is I can’t stand laptops with a numpad … and there’s like 3 such models that I’m aware of.

Perhaps someone has a suggestion?

I can’t speak for the P1 but all the t series ThinkPads (though nothing new, t480 era) I’ve tried qubes on have been flawless. Suspend, battery life, external HDMI monitor etc. I haven’t used thunderbolt

I’d think you’d be fine as long as you stick to Intel CPU and no discrete graphics
