Don't make system remove quotes

systemjust nowAutomatically removed quote of whole previous post.

Very annoying when this happens. I quote on purpose to highlight certain sections. I 'd like the boot to not remove it.

In this post you quoted the whole previous post, not a section.

System will remove this quote.

System will hopefully not remove this quote.

System will remove this quote, making it difficult to see which post I am replying to, unless you click on the circled icon of the user I am replying to on the top left of this post.

Huh, this time it didn’t remove, maybe it is smart enough to not do that when the post is not sequential.

Test.

It removes the full quote of the previous post.

In email, it removes the full quote completely.
I am told that the web interface indicates this by showing the edit
process.

I believe that if you intersperse your comments among sections of the post,
even if you include the whole of the post, the quoted sections
remain.

When quoting whole posts, you can manually remove the full:true from the automatically generated Markdown as a workaround. Otherwise, an admin will need to toggle the remove full quote setting so that the box is unchecked:

Correct, there is an orange :pencil2: icon pointed towards the bottom-left corner indicating that the post has been tampered, with a edit number counter before it.

Correct, simply dividing the post into multiple quotes is sufficient to bypass the remove full quote configuration, among other workarounds.

I have now disabled this, hoping this is uncontroversial amongst mods. Otherwise I may revert it. But I agree it’s a a major unnecessary annoyance. It’s been irritating me for years.

Not a mod, but please revert. It’s a useful feature for me as it limits
the amount I have to churn though. Example - someone posts screeds of
logs, and another user comments a single line solution. I have to churn
through the logs again to read the solution, and this will happen
every subsequent interaction. In the name of sanity revert it.

Same here. I think that after all those explanations, the default behavior makes sense. Who needs to see the same message twice?

Ok. I have now reverted it as it seems to create more harm than good for some. Hopefully to those pushing for it, it is only a minor annoyance.
