Do minijack mics work with Qubes?

Since only USB devices can be passed to VMs, minijack mics (either standalone or as part of a headset) can’t be passed to a qube and thus are pretty much useless since they can only record from dom0.

Is that correct? Are USB headsets the only way? But then, if I pass a headset to a qube, it will pass their speaker part as well and thus only sound from that one VM will be heard. Is my understanding correct?

You can attach the microphone from dom0 to any other qube using Qubes Devices widget or qvm-device command.
Use PulseAudio settings in dom0 to select which input source is used if you have multiple input devices in dom0.
