Disable screen lock temporary

I’m looking for advice on managing my screen lock settings while watching movies and other similar activities. I often forget to disable Presentation Mode afterwards, and it can be a hassle.

Is there a mechanism similar to Caffeine that allows for preventing the lock screen from activating for a specific duration, such as 60 minutes? Ideally, I would prefer a solution that can be easily toggled on and off, so I can enjoy uninterrupted viewing without concerns about the screen locking.

Thank you for your help! Any suggestions or workarounds would be appreciated.

You could use a script to enable/disable the presentation mode after some time, or at least reset it automatically on startup.

In Dom0, run this command. True enables presentation mode, false disables it.

xfconf-query -c xfce4-power-manager -p /xfce4-power-manager/presentation-mode -s true

For some reason there is no presentation mode on a fresh 4.3 system ? Is this a laptop thing

IIRC it’s just the icon that isn’t shown by default in R4.3. It can be enabled by right-clicking on the power manager icon → PropertiesShow ‘Presentation mode’ indicator

Here’s a different approach that isn’t time based:

Although xscreensaver-command -lock needs to be changed to whatever is the R4.3 equivalent - I think it’s xfce4-screensaver-command --lock but I’m not sure because I’m using physlock.

how do you launch that ? Startup or when you active presentation mode via a script

xfce4-screensaver-command --lock works for me

You just have to run that xfconf-query command once after installing Qubes OS. Then you can activate presentation mode normally through the widget, and it will be deactivated whenever you manually lock the screen.

The screensaver tab has an option to ‘Inhibit screensaver for fullscreen applications’.
