Delayed USB Device Detection via Dock

Qubes 4.3 RC3, Thinkpad T14 Gen6, DELL WD15 Dock

Howdy! Did a search but couldn’t seem to locate a match. What I am seeing is a significant (minutes) delay in detection of usb devices through the dock. It does seem to immediately detect the display, ethernet, and audio built into the dock however. Keyboard and mouse may take several minutes before I see them detected and am prompted to attach. No such delay is observed if I use a plain old USB hub.

Thanks for any insight on the topic.

It’s common problem with this dock.
You might disconnect dock completely from computer, devices and power brick for 2-3 minutes.
You could also try usb 3.0 ports for keyboard and mouse.

But real solution is to connect dock to Dell laptop under Windows and update firmware.
That’s Dell docks for you. That’s why they are so cheap used.

Got it, not terribly surprised to hear that’s the case, I’ve not been happy with these docks but they were expensive when I bought em so I’ve been just suffering with them.

I’ve learned about them 2 years ago, when considered upgrade of my macbook pro mid2012 and iphone 11 to M1 air and iphone 15.

Best laptop maker cheap thunderbolt 3 dock is Toshiba, then lenovo. MS surface with eth and hdmi isn’t cheap.
Dell’s are cheap but are trouble maker even for dell users. It’s good to have RMA option. They are shipped with outdated firmware and update is possible thru dell link usb port only.

In the end, for 2/3 of air, 15, dock and external nvme I have t14 gen3, pixel 7, managed switch and mirrored 8tb NAS.

There’s a patch for r4.3 testing that may fix your issue:

I’ll give that a go and see if it helps.
