why is default-dvm & whonix-workstation-17-dvm in apps tab? Shouldn’t this be in templates? Ive read in other forum posts people mistake it as an app qube and use it as such. Is this a bug? How do you move these two qubes to templates?
Thank you

They are both in APPS and TEMPLATES tabs.
If you start the qube from the APPS one then it’ll start a DispVM qube (dispX) based on this template.
If you start the qube from the TEMPLATES one then it’ll start an AppVM qube (default-dvm or whonix-workstation-17-dvm) which is the disposable template.
Thank you for your response.
Could you provide a simple example of when someone would use default-dvm in apps tab in contrast with using default-dvm in templates tab?
I am reading on this currently but from what i understand, templates should never be used alone. They just provide a template to base app qubes upon. I see both default-dvm & whonix-workstation-17-dvm being the basis of many qubes, I believe I understand this function. And from what I read I am not supposed to use those templates for anything but that anyway.
So when would I use default-dvm & whonix-workstation-17-dvm from the apps tab?
For example if you have disposable sys-net and connect to WiFi then your connection info won’t be saved and you’ll need to choose the AP and enter password on each sys-net start.
But if you base your disposable sys-net on sys-net-dvm disposable template and edit this template to add NetworkManager connection info, then sys-net will use this connection info and connect to WiFi AP automatically on start.
You can also customize the browser config in disposable template to be used in disposable qubes.
You use these from the apps tab when you want to launch a disposable -
that is the usual way you use them. The disposable is a single use qube
which will disappear when the main window is closed.
You may want to run the disposable template from the templates tab when
you want to set some thing that will affect all disposables based on it.
This could be some configuration setting, or creating some help file,
or similar. The change you make in the disposable template will affect
all the disposables.
Thank you both for your informative responses!
unman better understood my vague questioning! Thank you very much for your clear response.
I appreciate the time you guys offered to answer my question.
