Debian 10 will not update in the Qubes updater. Should I go to my debian terminal and sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade -y I think I read somewhere not to do that but to always update using the qubes update tool.

Please, could you check if it’s a name resolving issue with your update-vm? If yes, is your update-vm is a fedora VM with systemd-resolved >= 249 ? If yes, then read #7429.
