Daily reminder Qubes collect your IP when you update your system

They store your IP for 3 months see Privacy policy — Qubes OS Documentation and Statistics — Qubes OS Documentation

The only way to protect yourself is using whonix or vpn if you want to stay “anonymous”

This post is not about creating drama or any conspiracy theory this is just a reminder for those who didn’t know about it also i think tails is doing the same thing if i’m not wrong ?

This is an excellent reminder but I doubt it needs to be daily.

Part of my reply seems to have disappeared in the mysteries of
Discourse email handling.

I also said, regarding use of Whonix or VPN -

If all your qubes run via Tor that’s fine but you must also be mindful of
the possibility of leakage on clearnet connected qubes using the
update-checker. Users who are concerned about this should disable the
qubes-update-check service (qvm-service --disable QUBE qubes-update-check
or in Global Config GUI.)

The best option overall is to use an onion mirror imo.

I never presume to speak for the Qubes team.

You have the option to only download updates via tor. It’s your choice. I would suggest you to enable this function in order to prevent your IP Leaking.

As I said, enabling this function does not prevent IP leak if you run qubes on
clearnet and have qubes-update-check enabled.
