Creating kali template

How should I go about creating a kali template on 4.0?

I’ve tried following the instructions on the wiki, to no avail. The template shuts down during the upgrade process and cannot be powered back on. I don’t have access to my machine right now, so forgive the lack of details.

On 4.1, a kali template is available in the community repo, but there isn’t one available for 4.0 yet. I have not experimented with Qubes builder, so I’m unsure as to how well that’ll go. An alternative would be to install Unman’s pre-built template, but I would prefer to minimize trust.

Any ideas? Do note that I’m only interested in using kali as a template, and NOT as a hvm.

Without a little more detail, it’s hard to advise.
I would always use Builder to create custom templates, or salt the
template you want, running of a minimal template.
Because kali is based on Debian testing, there will always be some
difficulties that emerge with Qubes packages, but generally they will
be fixable.
I can post details for salt if you like, or walk you through using
Builder - which method do you want to use?

Just use the qubes-builder to build the template for 4.0. I have done this a while ago and it worked.

While I use the Kali template mainly on my Qubes 4.1 machine, I have occasionally used the self-built template on Qubes 4.0 – without any major issues so far.

I would prefer using the builder. Much appreciated.
