How intense on the cpu should torrenting be for sys-net and sys-firewall and appvm?
Tested with disp net, firewall and also minimals and combo with sys-net = fedora-35-minimal and sys-firewall = debian-11 minimal and diff kernels.
Previously also 90c+ watching videos (in browser) or movies(vlc).
Increasing the vram buffer to *16 instead of *4 fix that one
qvm-features dom0 gui-videoram-min $(($WIDTH * $HEIGHT * 4 / 1024))
cpu i7-3720QM
clean ish heatsink and new paste
Fan does not sound like doing much.
it looks like is related to the speed I am downloading with.
sensors cpu:
54c idle - kind of normal temp for 8470p
85-90c after fresh install. No poking around dom0 and 50 - 60 Mbps download
no fan sensors
xentop:
sys-net 2vCPU ------- sys-firewall 2vCPU
66-70% ----------------- 66-70%
No cpu thirsty processes in sys-net, sys-firewall (top)
laptop - long time buddy 8470p, second hand.
Don’t know if is relevant.
Judging by the fan noise, I loud dare to say it’s off by +10c maybe +15c in comparison with what is doing in other distros
Bios - flashed to last available
Using BIOS. Uefi install (QubesOS R4.0 and R4.1) is NO GO after that, no matter what. No problem with any other distro. Tested on two 8470p.
Hope the info helps.
I haven’t use it till now. What will be clues for that behavior in powertop?
There is a chance to be tempered while afk in the past, so I use it to stay away from data suckers while browsing, courses and general learning pc. No private stuff, so no worry.
Remove the whole caddy.
That help a bit lowering the temps around 5c but I am not sure if its cuz the airflow increase? Please, explain what was your point for that.
Turning the swap off
xentop
sys-net & sys-firewall 55% 2vCPU’s
btrfs
cpu 3720QM
ram 16 Gb
ssd drive
gpu Radeon 7570M build in.
Do you need something more specific?
Just to clarify, are you saying you had no uefi problems, or temps problems with other distros?
Because my suggestion would’ve been to run another distro (any live will do) and check if the temps issue is still present. That way you’ll know if its Qubes-related.
If that’s the case, I also ran into a similar issue and I solved it by installing the kernel-latest iso: QubesOS 4.1 Signed Weekly Builds
Temps on 60Mbps download
live cd 65c
Qubes-20220618-x86_64.iso around 70c. Xentop 75% ish on sys-net and sys-firewall. Fan speed(noise) compared to temps is quite similar to live distro now.
Thank you all!
