I have never done it in 4.2 or 4.3. Can’t remember in which earlier version I did it, 4.1, or even 4.0. After that I just was importing backup and for almost 3 years I stopped using it at all.
What I can tell for sure is that you have to use the latest updated updated win7 ISO, post-SP1 for sure (Testing Windows and QWT in R4.1 - #61 by GWeck).
Find such an ISO online, it’s not hard. Just type LastWin7
Edit ISO and put qwt there. Install Win7 and prep it properly and check it properly before you install qwt. Make a clone of it.
Install qwt 4.1.6x from withing win7 qube. Test it.
Really don’t know what else to say, except - follow steps strictly and don’t ask yourself (and us) why something isn’t working. Make yourself asking “how this next step will work” instead. My honest opinion is that you are very often “lost in translation” asking why is something happening. Or at least, loosing us to help.

Create a new Qube with a standalone VM
Insert the Windows ISO file into another Qube VM.
Then, in the Qube (Standalone VM) terminal, enter the following command:
qvm-start WIN10 --install-windows-tools
=================
If there’s an error here, it would be great if you could correct it.
That way, a successful installation can be performed.
I understand that by absolutely you mean you are using a chronological setup that is not reproducible through the steps in the docs and probably requires to install a suspicious unofficial ISO in a TemplatVM.
I need a clean setup though.
FWIW:
I was able to create a Q: drive and it survived reboot. I don’t know how this is possible as I have tried the exact same things so many times.
I installed QWT 4.1.69 in the template without Xen PV drivers. After rebooting, the user files were moved correctly (that’s also new).
I created an AppVM and booted it.
Result:
After a slow log on (preparing the user profile) I got an error message:
C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be on a hard drive on this computer, or on a network. Check to make sure that the disk is properly inserted…
Starting Explorer shows the same message and no drive Q: and the private volume is not in use. I created drive Q: but after rebooting it is D: and I can’t find a way to fix that.
Also “Copy to VM” (tested in the W7 template) does nothing.
qvm-copy foo.txt to the W7 template results in “Request refused”.
The unfortunate fact is that the software runs only in W7 with compatibility mode set to Windows XP SP3 and must run as administrator. Trying the same in W11 always shows that it must be run as administrator although that is exactly how I start it.
