Can't install/boot Qubes 4.3 to/from External HDD

Hi all,

I’m having similar, but different issues.

Firstly, I get;
Warning: Could not query variable store: 0xB000000000000019

This happened on three devices. 1TB WD external HDD(destination), 64GB Verbatim USB-A(Bootable ISO - source) and 64GB Lexar USB-A(Bootable ISO - source).

Each time the warning ‘timed-out’ before I did anything and Installation proceed un-hindered through to re-boot message. The only change I made to the default install was to ‘check’ the Install Whonix 18 Gateway option.

Again, installation proceeded to, what I believed to be, completion.

However, both of my attempts to boot Qubes from the external 1TB HDD, via USB-A, simply ‘froze’ during the boot sequence. At different stages too.

The first time, it ‘dropped’ the GUI and at CLI I got,
Failed: Failed to start lightdm-service

And then crashed all together… and the second attempt it just ‘froze’ soon after the Grub menu.

Oh, and, 2015 MacBook Pro, i7, 16GB, Linux Mint 22.2.

I know its ME, but a few pointers would be appreciated.

Cheers.
