Hi! I saw the book recommendation for “The Definitive Guide to the Xen Hypervisor” by David Chisnall, published in 2007
Is this still the best starting point for learning about hypervisors and virtualization?
Thanks!

Hi
What kind of knowledge are you looking for? For what purpose?
Probably-never-going-to-happen goal is to try to port Qubes to Genode/NOVA, or at least enough of qrexec/vchan to work as a minion under Qubes Air. Mostly as a thing to do.
But in general, in my undergrad I had classes on Operating Systems, Embedded Programming, & CPU Architecture, but in looking at what would be needed for the port I realized I’m not totally clear on what exactly it is that a hypervisor is doing and figured it would be fun to know even in the likely case that the actual port project goes nowhere.
What I like about the book , from the description at least , is that it has small hands on projects and seems to go into the theory. I’m worried that it might be very tightly focused on Xen and not be broadly applicable, or that because it’s 18 years old it might be out of date.
Thanks!
