Application icons missing on R4.3.0rc4

Hello,

I had previously installed R4.3.0rc3 and now I just reinstalled completely R4.3.0rc4.
In both cases, I have lost the applications icons on the right click menu on the background.
On R4.2.4, there is a coloured icon next to every application in that menu.
Is this an expected behaviour?

Same situation for me, but idk if it should show any icons or not.

In the R4.2.4 version, it shows icons. So either it’s on purpose (but I don’t see why), either it a problem on my (our) installation(s).

I have the same issue. Clean R4.3.0 installation from the other day.

“shows icons in menu” is checkboxed in applications menu item setting inside panel preferences. so there is no reason to not show the icons…

@moderators i dont have a github account and have no phone number to sign up. How can I report the bug? obviously devs dont read posts (or dont care about them)

I did not (yet) redo a fresh R4.3.0 installation but after a while in my R4.3.0-rc4 installation, after some updates on top of it and reboots, I got the icons back.
You can have hope!

I was almost done creating the bug report on github. I m logged in qubes 4.3 now and I do not have the icons. I Have no updates available for dom0. I rebooted but still no icons here for some reason…

Even if after some time, they may get back, there is definitively an issue here as you are on a fresh install. You can create the bug report…

Found a work around to fix this!

Open panel preferences
click button “backup and restore”
optional - save or export your current configuration
click any of the available configurations
click the gear icon to apply the configuration

this brings back the icons, from there modify that configuration to your liking and the icons should persist

### Qubes OS release **4.3.0** (R4.3) || xen_version 4.19.3 || linux 6.12.59…-1.qubes.fc41.x86_64 ### Brief summary Fresh r4.3 install, enabling back the old menu stile "Applications Menu" in Panel Preferences, selecting "Show icons in menu" in its settings, brings back the menu correctly, but without any icons in it, making it visually hard to use. I've tweaked with all settings of the Applications Menu, several reboots, but the icons do not appear. ### Steps to reproduce **The behaviour comes out-of-the-box with qubes 4.3 installation.** 1. Install r4.3 2. right click on the taskbar > panel > panel preferences > items > add item "applications menu" > click the settings button of the item > set "show icons in menu" 3. the menu icon is added to the taskbar, clicking it is supposed to bring back the old menu (default in <r4.1) with the program icons present ### Expected behavior the menu should have it's icons next to the program name ### Actual behavior the menu lacks the icons, see screenshot. <img width="746" height="830" alt="Image" src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/47f04c71-ab5d-4ae5-8db7-3244296129ac" /> ### Additional information Please do not reply: "just use the new menu!" - I have over 50 vms in qubes, the new menu is unfit to handle such overwhelming amount of vms, I would need to scroll for too long before reaching the last vm in the list...
