Wanted to build a cheap qubes desktop (~$650usd) with newish specs
MSI A620M-E - cheapest AM5 motherboard. Bonus it has 2x PS/2 ports
9600x Ryzen
48 GB memory
4.3RC3
Ethernet only, no wifi or Bluetooth
M2 nvme but also tested SATA SSD and that was surprisingly fast too
Graphics runs very smooth, none of the occasional artifacts and lag I occasionally get previously. Using the integrated graphics on CPU.
Sleep works
Just a prelim report, will do an HCL in a few weeks if it stays stable
Surprisingly easy install and no need to do any changes to fix issues
Unlike Thinkpad L14 AMD, the fan auto controls work very well
As renehoj has mentioned, the Qubes experience on this generation of AMD is basically bare metal. All the lag and slow load times on my previous setups has gone. Difficult to get the CPU to work hard regardless of what you throw at it. Stays very cool most of the time.
