Alder lake CPU temps and freq

I’m curious what temps and CPU freq users are getting on qubes with alder lake. I have a 12600k and it maxes at 60C and 4.5 ghz.

After reading how hot and power hungry these CPUs are, I’m mystified. The only thing I can think of is my single core never hits 4.9 boost.

I did run with MSI OC Genie mode that maxed everything and the CPU fan and it still didn’t get hot.

By contrast, the same tasks had my 9600x at 75C and it felt hot. And that chip is cooler than alder lake I thought.

I did check xenpm for settings and boost is enabled. I switched the performance around and changed between credit and credit2. Nothing changes anything

Perhaps them being hot is news from when they launched and now they’ve dialed in efficiency. I just don’t want to leave performance on the table.

It was really only the i7 and i9 versions of the 12th gen CPUs that were power hungry. The i3 and i5 are only running at 125W, and a fully overclocked i9 KS model will run up to 380W.

My 12900K would have all cores at 100°C when maxed out.

Thank you, after using 12600k and 9600x I can see why you have moved to AMD. I still feel better using the 12600k for high threat model uses but I gravitate to the 9600X for everything else. It just works so well with no fuss.

Note: I was able to get the 12600k to hit 70C with boost +3 (effective 4.8GHZ) and imagine I could push it higher into the 80s
