Advice on installing QubesOS on Intel Ultra 9 and RTX 5080 laptop

Hi, I will receive tomorrow my new laptop which is a recoil 16 from pc specialist.

I want to attempt the installation of QubesOS on it and since this is a pretty new line of laptops I’m seeking advices on how to proceed correctly. I’ve seen that someone manage to install it on a Intel core ultra 7 on the HCL report list.

Here are some specs of the laptop:

-Intel® Core™ Ultra 9 24 Core 275HX 36MB Cache
-DDR5 PCS PRO SODIMM 5600 MHz 64 GB
-NVIDIA® GeForce® RTX 5080 - 16 GB GDDR7 DirectX® 12.2
-CRUCIAL T710 GEN 5 2 TB NVMe PCIe
-CRUCIAL E100 GEN 4 2 TB NVMe PCIe
-Nahimic di SteelSeries Audio HD a 2 channel
-LAN GIGABIT & WIRELESS INTEL® KILLER™ Wi-Fi 6E AX1675i + BT 5.3

Any advice is appreciated. I have been using QubesOS for 3+ years on a nitropad 55. Since QubesOS was preinstalled, I have no knowledge of the proper installation process for my new machine other than the official guide.

Once done, crossing my fingers, I will release a guide and the HCL report of it.

Thanks, any suggestions is welcome

I’ve installed Qubes 4.3 on a Intel Ultra 9 with RTX 5070. You can see the HCL here. I’m not using the NVIDIA card just the integrated Intel one.

It isn’t as easy as popping in a USB with Qubes 4.3 and install I’m afraid; but it can be done.

Here we have a discussion with people who all run Qubes 4.3 on Intel Ultra 9 and if not mistaken all have NVIDIA cards about the patch and problems that we still have running it mostly USB-c/TB problems.

Kind regards, Bloged

Hi @Bloged, thanks very much for you patched *.rpm, I was able to compile them correctly, and have them ready for the transfer to Dom0.
I have written down the extra grub flags mentioned in your post.
I will attempt the installation in the following days.
I have created a guide and I will release as soon as things get done.
I will attempt to do the pass through for the Nvidia RTX 5080 in an HVM as last step.
I will let you know soon here and inform the others in the other thread.
Many thanks
