You maybe aware that some of those weird multicultural types in some places around The World have the strange tendency to write their sentences from the Right-Hand Side (RHS) to the Left-Hand Side (LHS)!
No kidding! . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .siht ekiL
Then there are also some of us who live in normal cultures who just like to make the most of what we’ve got, and so whilst we write from LHS to RHS like normal people do, we also try to organise our computer’s video ‘desktop’ in a spatial sort of design.
With some things on the left, and some things on the right, and some things in the centre. There is also a methodology of putting some things at the top, and some things at the bottom, and some things in the middle, but that topic can wait for another thread in another time because we don’t want to confuse anyone here on a Sunday afternoon.
Ever since I made the Giant Leap from AmigaDOS and the GEM Desktop to Windows 95, (only for client systems, of course), I’ve oft sought comfort from a tall, slim file manager on the RHS of the ‘desktop’ whilst engaged in word processing or graphic design or other computer-based activities. It just seems so obvious to me, with the shape of an A4 page compared to the shape of a typical monitor, that there is always room on the RHS for a file manager. Or maybe with all the VMs in Qubes-OS, a Volume Control, even.
Here is my typical basic ‘desktop’ layout before things get serious.
So, as you have probably already guessed by now, what still perplexes me when I think of such a brilliant lump of IT magic as Qubes-OS, is why do the System Information Windows always turn up on the RHS of the so-called ‘desktop’ when there is nothing but empty pixels on the LHS?
Excuse the messy pink high-lighter, please. I didn’t have anything with a finer felt tip.
Do you think there might be anyone around who stops in here every now and then who might be able to think of a way to get in touch with someone who writes some of the code for Qubes-OS and ask them if they might incorporate a sweet little function into the source that checks what windows are already open on the so-called ‘desktop’ and where on that ‘desktop’ those windows might happen to be, and then write up a simple algorithm that thoughtfully considers the least overwhelming spot on the screen to dump the System Message Windows so that The User can will have the best chance of managing the files without encumbrances like these?
