When will there be a 4.3-rc3 for public download?
Having a screwed up rc2 it makes more sense to re-install a rc3-
Very soon.
Is there a possibility to download an automatic build of the iso installer for the actual development of 4.3 so one coul test bleeding edge 4.3?
Yes, that and similar options are documented here:
The last dom0 update of version R4.3-rc2 pushed the version number to R4.3-rc3.
Of course, this does not change the version of the installed templates, but all new templates, up to Whonix-18, are available now and can be installed via the standard mechanisms, especially by using the Template Manager. (On my system, this worked without problems.)
So, it’s just a question, when the ISO from a weekly build will be made the official version R4.3-rc3.
Can you share what “screwed up” actually mean? I use rc2, but I didn’t use any previous Qubes before, so can’t compare and would like to know what’s supposed to be different than I’m experiencing.
BTW, how do I know if I must restart the system or not after dom0 updates? I just updated without restart and it’s still the rc2 for me
The latest ISO stored there contains Fedora-42-xfce, Debian-13-xfce, but still Whonix-17.
Yes, I can confirm.
Still whonix17 for gateway and workstation
I installed the latest ISO to replace my screwed-up qubes-os-4.3-rc2.
It needed a lot of updates to all the qubes-templates, so these were not freshly bundled. Also a lot of DOM 0 updates.
But up to now the qubes-os is running fine (1h uptime
). Audio works.
It survived reboot after all the updates, also DOM 0, nice.

screwed-up means this:
For people who are extremely inpatient and want the nightly rc3 build “right now”:

Do not use at production environment.
The R4.3-rc3 .iso was already uploaded yesterday and it’s been mirrored to the usual places, e.g. https://mirrors.edge.kernel.org/qubes/iso/
Looks like the announcement and the download link update are both imminent.

I actually noticed that message when I was installing, but didn’t you say it’s fine in here
“Otherwise with normal updates, your system should be automatically upgraded to r4.3 stable later.”
Hi, just install 4.3-RC3. It is quite stable. If you have an existing 4.2, then do not upgrade to 4.3 wait! There are instabilities with such an upgrade, have others test such an upgrade with their precious data.
But for a fresh install go for 4.3-RC3
Let’s put it this way:
r4.2 has Fedora 37 as dom0 (which has been EOL for long time). However, Qubes OS team (tries to) back-port all security related patches for it.
r4.3 has Fedora 41 as dom0 which receives upstream related security patches. But some other parts of it is still under (active) testing. But it is very much near stable release at this point.
Finally it is up to individual user to decide.
Why is it that Dom0 always has old versions of Fedora?
Please refer to this:
Because the team freeze a release with a specific version while testing.
In any case it doesnt matter
