I installed Qubes OS on a new Lenovo Ideapad gaming 3 laptop. Earlier it has Windows 11. I overwrite ssd and installed Qubes OS 4.2.2(R4.2). The installation setup asked me to to reboot. I clicked the button as reboot and lenovo logo appeared and one black console strip message also appear saying βdo not press power button during bios update.β
I never saw any such message during any OS installation and never expected.
Hi @altorama, welcome to the Community!
Did you use a USB stick to install Qubes? Does it have any other files on it? Did you verify the installation and the Verifying signatures | Qubes OS?
The usb was also just unpacked. I checked gpg sign of just downloaded iso image Qubes OS file. I write the iso image to usb using disks in opensuse. after writing iso image to usb I checked the image in usb using :: sudo dd if=/dev/sdb bs=4096 count=$(($(stat -c β%sβ /home/myname/Qubes-R4.2.4-x86_64.iso) / 4096)) | sha256sum output was 1773927+0 records in
1773927+0 records out
7266004992 bytes (7.3 GB, 6.8 GiB) copied, 267.1 s, 27.2 MB/s

I did not connected this Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 laptop to internet or any other usb earlier. This is the first and only usb or any device connected to this laptop.
three possible reasons for bios update message may be (1) earlier bios set to boot from windows now that changed to Qubes OS (2) in bios settings there is feature related to SSD encryption is enabled. As disc content OS is changed may be that cause that message. (3) I enabled bios backup and recovery from crash. The first/second looks more plausible.
That update bios message may be related to Windows 11, before installation of Qubes did you run Windows 11 once? Did you preform windows update?
Maybe related somehow:
Yes I booted windows several times. But did nothing.
During windows use device was connected to network?
Even few minutes of expose to local network is enough for windows to download updates over delivery optimizaton:
And it work by default ![]()
I did not connected this laptop to internet when it has windows on it. Not even a single millisecond.
