Vpn qube: standalone or app qube from template?

Is it best to use a standalone qubes or an app qube as a qube for vpn? Is there a reason to chose one over the other?

I prefer use of template based qubes, because I value the flexibility
this brings.

I never presume to speak for the Qubes team.
When I comment in the Forum I speak for myself.

Ah ok thank you. I found Solene’s guide and it said to use stand alone so I wanted to make sure that wasn’t a security related thing.

I used standalone qubes for VPN apps because it makes the installation process a lot easier. It could be done in a template, but then you would have to create a new qube and configure persistency in it for the app.

If you install proton vpn in template and then create appvm from that template and run proton vpn from desktop file then configuration is saved in user space.
