Using low latency kernels in Qubes

I’d like to run Qubes and also use my computer as a DAW/digital audio workstation. Is it possible to run low latency and realtime kernels like Ubuntu Studio in a qube, or is that just not going to work in a VM based and compartmentalized system like Qubes?

I’m completely new to Qubes, my apologies if this is a dumb question.

Thank you,

I don’t know the answer to your question but just dropping in to say “hi” and welcome you to the Qubes community :grinning:. If nobody replies, rephrasing your question might help. I’m not a bot btw. Real human here.

Short answer: Don’t use Qubes OS for that. Use a dedicated machine with Linux, Win or Mac OS as you need maximum performance (or why do you go for the rt kernel anyway?). You can still transfer the production results to a Qubes OS machine for long term storage.

If you still want to go with Qubes OS for DAW usage, research in-VM kernels for an audio Qube.
