@d-arcy@equbes guys im really struggling here with my trezor and setting up… would any of yall care to help me either in this thread to potentially help someone else or over dm? I’d greatly appreciate it. I am a beginner so a step by step detail on exact code from moving up to sudo nano writing somehting and making executable i keep getting something off. thank you!!
Do I need to enable anything in the service settings of the VM?
I follow @smrtak and your code and I can’t seem to get it to work.
I cloned a whonix WS template. Downloaded trezor in there. I’m not sure if I should do a manual download off the trezor website under linux install. It’s all the way at the bottom. Or if I could use the Debian commands since kicksecure is based on Debian? I follow it to the end the app shows connected to the wallet but it just keeps loading.
Seems like there’s many guides split up for the new qubes 4.2.4 and I’m not sure what’s not working. Also updated to newest firmware for trezor model t I’m getting a safe 5. Also have newest app installed. I’m sure it’s me breaking it not the new software or firmware.
I’d like to know step by step because I’m not sure what I’m getting wrong it’s very frustrating.
@equbes Discovery error
Assets couldn’t be loaded. If using a VPN, disable it and try again.
i ran the app with the no sandbox as well nothing still working… i have this one in a standalone vm but have used appvm in past and still nothing worked.
could it be an issue with my bios? whether on my thinkpad e15 gen3 or qubes bios? Any services I need to add to settings off the VM to make work?
Keep in mind that the problem is not with the hardware, nor is it with Qubes, it’s in the Trezor software. As was mentioned in USBIP protocol errors - #22 by d-arcy, if you use Electrum, the Trezor hardware works just fine in Qubes out of the box.
If you don’t really care which software you use, it’s an easy fix. But I get that there are features the Trezor software has that Electrum doesn’t and vice versa, so hopefully we can help you get things working for you.
I’m not sure if anyone ever reported this problem to the Trezor project, but they have the power to fix it for everyone if they’d just change a single flag in their AppImage. They probably just don’t know it’s causing problems. In the meantime, setting up the Trezor Bridge as a systemd service seems like the workaround.
@hax0rbana_adam@equbes i will get back to this. currently i am starting to use a grapheneOS phone w Orbot running to connect my trezor app downloaded from its github page and it works great. In the future I’d like to use the computer as much as possible as I hear of VPN’s etc leaking on phones for some reason but I understand at the moment that computers don’t leak their true IP with TOR or VPN connections like phones do.
Also @equbes I am downloading the app image and idk how to ss on here yet but basically it says please disconnect your VPN and has a yellow warning sign
My thoughts were originally to just use electrum and feather since they have GUI’s and are able to route over TOR, FOSS, etc. Feather and Electrum are a lil scary to me still as i’m used to nice GUI’s like trezor suite, ledger, cake wallet.
My goal is to have crypto keys only ever on cold storage and use the apps to send and receive the crypto. Using ledger nano s plus and a trezor safe 5
I’d still like it to work well but now I’ve run into a failure to be able to backup my system. I’m going to handle that first because if I can’t backup my qubes then it’s not worth a whole lot to keep configuring it. Just posted about it if you may have any knowledge on that subject.
Thank you for the reply. I will try this out after the backup gets working.
