USB audio strange behavior in debian 13

I am running Qubes R4.2.4 Kernel 6.12.59-1 and I am using a Jabra Evolve2 headset with an USB dongle with my AppVMs.

With my debian 12 based AppVM this was no problem so far. I would boot my system, then attach the USB dongle to the AppVM based on a debian 12 template and then I would have audio. That easy.

Now I installed debian 13 from scratch, did my tooling and so on and then rebooted my system. Now when I attach the USB dongle to the AppVM, there is no sound at all. But now comes the strange part. If I shutdown the AppVM and then switch the template back to debian 12 and attach the dongle again, there is audio. And now comes the strangest part. If I now switch back to debian 13, attach the USB dongle, there is also audio.

I can reproduce this by restarting the system completely.

I don’t even know how to debug this. Is there anyone that experienced the same and knows a solution?

Thanks in advance,
Patrick

// UPDATE:

I recognized that in sys-usb in pavucontrol I can select the USB dongle to be the default sink until I attach the USB dongle for the first time to an AppVM. Then the dongle just vanishes from the selection, but sound does not work. If I detach it, the sink will not be re-introduced to pavucontrol. It is just lost. Re-plugging the USB dongle will reset anything and in pavucontrol I can then chose the dongle to be the default sink again and sound just works.
