Hi,
I’ve already started a thread in whonix forum, but trying to address any qubes-specific stuff here. I have successfully upgraded a number of whonix qubes from whonix 15 to 16, but one keeps failing.
What Happens
During running “release-upgrade”, which takes up to an hour, the terminal crashes. I have not witnessed what happens before the crash. But I can no longer launch any applications or relaunch terminal.
I tried:
dom0]$ qvm-run VMNAME xterm
and it just sits there and never launches or returns.
If I try copying a file from another qube to this damaged qube I get:
/etc/qubes-rpc/qubes.Filecopy: 2: exec: /usr/lib/qubes/qfile-unpacker: not found
In another thread I saw the option to do this:
dom0]$ sudo xl console -t pv VMNAME
I tried logging in as user with password blank and password ‘changeme’ but couldn’t get in.
If I shutdown the qube, it will not boot anymore.

GOAL
My goal in this forum is to get access to the damaged Qube so i can get a log file to give the Whonix team to figure out what is going wrong in the upgrade process.
