Issue: usb drive connections are not stable. Was running Qubes4.2.4 now 4.3.0RC3 with same issue. Specifically, USB3/Thunderbolt when all items disconnected (Yubikey, drives, so far tested) seems to cause a kernel panic and crashes with a restart. I am going in to look for log entries but did some lesintrusive testing too characterize. I tri-boot Qubes/Fedora 43/Windows so I made sure BIOS and firmware updated and tested with baremetal Fedora with no issues, detaching many times and instead of 20MB/sec transfers I got over 1 GB/sec. This is all with NVME external drives. Tried a older 1.5TB external SATA and it starts at 800MB/sec but soon drops too 20MB/sec. I did find that the sys-usb in thunar preferences under advanced shows a Gvfs not found dependency issue, also if I try to mount I get a Polikit permission no authority issue. I checked on all other APP VM’s based on Fedora 42-xfce and all do not show this error. I have tried removing the THunderbolt controller from the sys-usb with same issue. If you can direct for relevent logs I will happily gather, in mean time I will try to get what I can…
First I search for similar issues both in forum and other Linux sights. I am very technical just not so much linux and Qubes. Have used Qubes on Dell 5480 and 7760 and Lenovo T420 and 450's. but been hostpitalized and lost all so just getting back to it with more updated HW and picked Lenovo since been in past good Linux support.
