"Unknown error has occured" before installing / pdb Debugger suggested by error window

Hello,

I’m fairly new to Qubes, got myself a gaming PC that I will now use as my daily PC and I know how much of a hassle it can be to install Qubes on most computers (at least that is my experience. Here are the specs:

  • The CPU is a Intel I9 12900KF.
  • The GPU is an RTX 4070 from Nvidia with 12G of memory
  • The RAM is a 65G + peanuts DDR4
  • The SSD is a M.2 NVMe 2TB
I believe that is all the specs I need to address.
While looking in the hardware compatibility list (HCL) I saw the people with the same GPU needing TPM 2.0 which I am not sure what it is but I am sure Ill find out as this process progresses. The users with the same PCU talked about needing kernel latest (when choosing whether to install, test and install, recuperate a qubes or using latest kernel.

So

  • I copied the ISO to a 125g pendrive using the commands indicated for linux (used Fedora but dont think it is pertinent).
  • Booted from “UEFI: ” and not from “” itself, see exemple down below. (PS: had to upload it in a reply as Im not allowed to upload more than one picture here)
  • Chose to use kernel latest as specified on the HCL
  • The Installation Summary page poped up
  • I personalised settings such as Keyboard, time zone and language
  • Successfully verified media on the installation, chose the software too
  • I chose the destination (had to delete all and reclaim all too erase my previous SSD content and chose the encryption password
  • Created a user but not a root
  • Clicked on begin installation.
  • Had this pop up

When this happened I went around the site trying to see whether or not a solution had already been given but just saw this:

Installation troubleshooting | Qubes OS

but when I restarted my computer trying to go back to the old OS the UEFI-Bios showed no SSD available and rather just the flashdrive still connected on its USB A port.

Although I have successfully installed Qubes previously, I am fairly new to this process and dont really know how to look for more ponctual data about what happened but I invite all help possible.

Back in my first installation (on different equipment) I used a different forum account (which I have since lost ) but never got replies to my questioins so Im also open to criticism of the form of my questions themselves. If the is data missing or I uploaded this topic under the wrong Tag or whatever I’m more than open to hear about it.

Thinking of learning pdb (python debugger) for this but dont know if its recommended to go down that route rather than do something else entirely. Thoughts?
