I’m having trouble running Sparrow Bitcoin Wallet on an AppVM in Qubes OS.
Here’s what I’ve encountered:
When using a Debian 12 template, the application doesn’t appear in the applications menu of derived AppVMs.
When using a Fedora 41 template, the application does appear in the menu, but fails to launch when I create an AppVM from this template.
Interestingly, Sparrow launches successfully within the template VM itself, just not in the derived AppVMs.
I’ve managed to get it working by creating a standalone VM, but this is not my preferred solution for security and maintenance reasons.
Has anyone else experienced this issue or found a solution that allows Sparrow to work properly in an AppVM? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
I don’t have any solution to get Sparrow Wallet working but I have a question which could lead to an alternative solution.
Why Sparrow Wallet instead of Electrum?
Electrum in combination with other tools can do everything Sparrow Wallet can. It’s just that Sparrow Wallet has everything combined and built into the wallet. Sparrow Wallet is easier to use but not more powerful.
However, a big problem with Sparrow Wallet is that it’s build with terrible Java. Electrum is built with great Python.
The big selling point of Sparrow Wallet is to make everything easier for a beginner. But since you are having problems with it, maybe it would be easier with Electrum because whonix docs have a very detailed and in depth walkthrough step by step guide on setting up electrum with electrumx and bitcoin core.
