Sys-Whonix Security Inquiry

Hi, I wanted to know if these errors in the anonymity proxy connection log are a potential security incident or if this is a common issue for other users.

Nov 14 20:18… [warn] Received local state file with skewed time (/var/lib/tor/state): It seems that our clock is behind by 2 minutes, 22 seconds, or that theirs is ahead. Tor requires an accurate clock to work: please check your time, timezone, and date settings.

Nov 14 20:18… [warn] Problem bootstrapping. Stuck at 0% (starting): Starting. (Clock skew -142 in local state file from /var/lib/tor/state; CLOCK_SKEW; count 1; recommendation warn; host ? at ?)

These reports appear after a Whonix update and seem to occur randomly.

Seems like clock drift, nothing special :man_shrugging:

I see, I’m a little confused by the explicit output of receiving a file from host? to host?, especially after reading about the blinds function in Tor. Thank you for your response.

It’s just confusing language - the tor process loaded state from the state file into memory. The state file was created previously a tor process, before tor was restarted through a service restart or reboot. It didn’t “receive” the file from a remote host.

That’s my understanding

Hello again, is anyone else getting this notification:

Nyx terminal: Linux 6.12.59 -------> Tor 0.4.8.15 (OBSOLETE)

Update the system to the latest stable repository version. I don’t understand why it’s showing as obsolete.
