When I boot my desktop computer (with Qubes 4.2) with a wired USB mouse connected, everything works fine. But if I plug in a wireless USB mouse receiver and reboot, sys-usb won’t start and the mouse won’t work.
To get sys-usb to start, I have to disconnect the wireless receiver. Once sys-usb is started, I can plug in the wireless receiver and the wireless mouse works fine.
I need to boot the computer with the receiver disconnected and wait for sys-usb to start before I can connect it. It’s a bit of a pain; I’d like it to work like the wired USB mouse. I don’t know if it’s possible.
If sys-usb starts, without the wireless receiver connected, and then I connect the receiver and try to restart sys-usb from Qube Manager, I get the usual pop-up messages:
Qube sys-usb is attempting to shut down
Qube sys-usb has shut down
Qube sys-usb is starting
Then it seems to stop, and after a while, I get the message:
Error starting Qube!
Cannot connect to qrexec agent for 60 secons, see /var/log/xen/console/guest-sys-usb.log for details
I’ve looked in the log file, but I have not found anything that has helped me.
Then, I’ve removed the receiver and restarted sys-usb from Qube Manager using the keyboard. After that, if I plug in the receiver, the wireless mouse works fine.
Somehow the receiver prevents sys-usb from starting
My new USB wireless keyboard works for luks sign-in, then disables sys-usb such that it will not subsequently start and no usb devices are available. I can not start sys-usb, I get the same qrexec message as you and no sys-usb.
However if I do not use the kb at start-up but use the laptop kb, and connect the kb once sys-usb is established, it operates perfectly and all normal sys-usb functionality is available.
Been using 4.2 since it’s release with an older, wired usb kb, on a NovaCustom 41, and otherwise have no problems.
I have read through the standard documents, most of which deal with the situation where the kb is not recognized after initial boot.
I have three usb controllers listed under sys-usb devices (two are thunderbolt and one pci) and have selected them for strict reset, but to no avail.
For the moment, I simply sign-in using the laptop, then connect the kb and all is good. But it is becoming tedious, so I would be grateful for any pointers towards a solution.
Yes, it seems to be the same problem. I haven’t been able to solve it yet.
There’s something preventing sys-usb from starting when the USB receiver is connected. But once sys-usb has started, if you plug in the receiver, the USB device is recognized without issue.
It’s a bit tedious. Almost every day I have an update for the fedora-40-xfce template, and after updating, a restart of sys-usb is required for the changes to take effect, but if I try to restart with the USB receiver connected, sys-usb won’t start.
