Hey everyone, I’ve tried to switch from regular debian 11 to debian 11 minimal for my sys-net, just for the sake of it and obviously to reduce the filesize, but I must be doing something wrong because it won’t even start.
After I downloaded the template and it was visible in the qubes manager, then I updated it and then installed necessary packages: qubes-core-agent-networking, qubes-core-agent-network-manager, gnome-keyring, firmware-iwlwifi, and then I turned off the my original sys-net and tried to switch my sys-firewall to updated sys-net and start it, but it didn’t even start…
Maybe I did something wrong? I tried for like 7-8 times…What did I miss, please?
Update: I forgot to mention that I tried to make it a dispVM with the following lines:
Can you maybe describe more precisely what exactly the process you went through? I’m also kinda interested in this and will try that out later on and tell you if I succeed and what I did exactly so you could retry that too
Does the new sys-net have the setting for providing network? Is the sys-firewall set to to use the new sys-net as it’s network VM? Is the network device attached to the new sys-net? There are also a couple settings in the Qubes global settings app for the net VM - is the new sys-net also set as your clock VM and does it have the service enabled.
I don’t know about the disposable part, but I used to use a minimized template for my sys-net as well (based on Fedora-34-minimal). A few suggestions for packages: network-manager-applet, Network-Manager, wireless-tools, polkit, notification-daemon. Since then, I’ve since given up on the minimal template because of numerous problems with file shares and backups, but good luck.
