Sys-gui-gpu behavour?

Hello,

I cannot (yet?) configure a sys-gui-gpu. However, I have a question for those who did: is their any visual difference between a sys-gui-gpu-ed system and a normal one? Is there any difference of the behaviour ? Any black screen at one point in time? Anything visible for a user?

Thanks
Bertrand

Hi

This is an extra security feature that should give the same display and performance. It comes with its load of troubles as you can’t completely manage your qubes with it.

The only difference is that it should have a newer distro version compared to Dom0 and hence gives better compatibility.

It’s specifically that part of your reply that worries me  !
What do you mean by that? What action you cannot do? Does it chage the way of using Qubes?

Since sys-gui-gpu doesn’t have network access (like dom0), and many RPC policies aren’t fully baked for it yet, simple things like updating your templates can fail with ‘request refused.’ Most users who try it end up keeping a text console (Ctrl+Alt+F2) open to dom0 just in case they get locked out or need to run a command that sys-gui-gpu doesn’t have the rights for!
