I have seen some experienced members using a StandaloneVM for apps instead of TemplateVMs, so what are the pros and cons of both approaches? StandaloneVMs don’t share their storage with any other qube, but how is that different from a regular TemplateVM that is allocated only towards a specific app? And which one should I use if I don’t want the app to be able to tell that I am using Qubes? Would StandaloneVMs make it so that the app doesn’t know it is running on Qubes, like it does on AppVMs?
No, it won’t. Hiding the fact that you’re using Qubes is moderately difficult for apps using simple detection methods and probably extremely difficult for advanced ones.
Why?
There’s been a long discussion about this before, feel free to look into that:
So what can I do?
Why do you even worry about the fact that an app can tell that you’re using Qubes? What’s your threat model to include that?
Can I do it?
I want to use my friends app anonymously but he knows I own qubes. I know he can tell what OS the person uses but not how he doesit
Google says my threat model is privacy
If I download his app and he knows it’s me then why can’t he maliciously update my app if he wants to hack me? I don’t have a real number but his app probably has like around a million downloads
So can he hack me?
He is not a friend I particularly trust, I never talked to him outside of class but his app is really useful to me and I can’t do without it
How can I delete everything here?
Can staff help me?
