I have a problem installing Session messenger. I install it on the default “Personal” machine on Debian. After installation, everything seems to work, except that it is not visible in the Applications menu in the settings. The problem appears after the machine is reset. Even the “session-desktop” command in the console stops working and the shortcut in /usr/share/applications/ disappears. Is there any option to install it so that it works?
Read the doc about templates and how to use them, specifically:
An important side effect of this system is that any software installed in an app qube (rather than in the template on which it is based) will disappear after the app qube reboots (see Inheritance and Persistence). For this reason, we recommend installing most of your software in templates, not app qubes.
It’s important to understand how QubesOS works and the @apparatus apartatus link will help you with that.
I also use Session messenger but using the appimage
it is not necessary to carry out an installation in a template but just to use the appimage in a folder of one of your qubes
a Session qubes for example
here’s the simple procedure:
download the appiimage from the official lee site :
Download - Session Private Messenger then in Dekstop choose Linux
the image will be downloaded via your browser
then right-click on it and open property then make the file executable
then you just have to launch this file to have Session working normally in a Qube of your choice
ive used session on fedora with no problem. I think i installed it via .rpm
I’ve installed it on a template with other fedora software i use. I created an AppVM with just session. It shows up in the application settings and I have a desktop gui for it as well
The appimage Download - Session Private Messenger work well on all linux distributions like Debian or Fedora and don’t need any installation via .rpm in any template.
is there a simple way to add the appimage as a desktop gui?
