"Is anyone aware of an issue using the Ryzen 9 9900X with Qubes 4.3.0 that could cause sys-usb to stop working? I installed Qubes for the first time a few days ago. Everything worked perfectly for three days until suddenly, after a reboot, the mouse and keyboard stopped responding because sys-usb appeared to be malfunctioning. I likely had to remove the USB-C controller from the sys-usb devices just to get sys-usb to start at all without the mouse and keyboard freezing. I would greatly appreciate any help.
Are you overclocking?
Did you plug in a new usb device?
Are you passing through all the usb devices to sys-usb? It is common on AM5 to have one usb pcie device that will not passthrough properly. Try using qubes.skip_autostart in grub and then adding usb pcie passthrough devices one-by-one to sys-usb until the problem happens–then you know not to use pcie passthrough that device.
Perhaps related to my issue, i have a 9600x. Either go to older kernel in sys-usb settings or try removing some of the usb devices (mine was caused by usb 2.0 port). Clone sys-usb first
I’m still a bit of a novice and I’m currently only using this Qubes installation for testing purposes before doing a clean reinstall. I’ve applied many different modifications using various commands I found online to suit my needs. It’s possible that I also ran a dom0 update, but I can’t say for sure anymore. I am not overclocking. This is a fresh installation; I may have moved USB plugs to different ports, and I do have an external USB-C hard drive connected directly to the USB-C port on the motherboard. During installation, I selected ‘automatically accept USB mice’ and ‘automatically accept USB keyboard’ because I don’t want to manually authorize the mouse every time I reboot.
I know that GRUB is the boot menu, but how exactly do I use qubes.skip_autostart in GRUB, and more importantly, when? Do you mean I should use it after a fresh installation, or now with my current setup where I’ve already removed 3 out of 4 USB entries from the sys-usb device settings? Regardless of that, I discovered yesterday that the following entry in the sys-usb device settings appears to be ‘harmful’ to my system when starting sys-usb: `0000:00:08.3 USB controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD] Raphael USB Controller.
Just try the oldest kernel in sys net settings/advanced
If it was a dom0 update that caused, it’ll likely fix it
I had already tried the older kernel, but it didn’t change anything. Only removing 3 of the 4 USB controllers from the devices of sys-usb made a difference. The system is running now, but I would like to have it working again with all USB controllers in devices from sys-usb.
