Removing Community template repositories

I’d like to remove the Community templates and Community testing templates repositories. The Qubes Global Config GUI let’s me uncheck Community testing templates but I can’t uncheck Community templates. Do I need to remove the whonix-gateway-17 and whonix-workstation-17 templates in order to uncheck Community templates?

In the Qubes Template Manager the whonix-gateway-17 and whonix-workstation-17 templates are listed as being in the @commandline repository under “Available” but also in the qubes-templates-community-testing repository under “Upgradable”. What does “Upgradable” mean there?

Why are templates from the qubes-templates-community-testing repository listed in the Qubes Template Manager since I’ve unchecked Community testing templates in the Qubes Global Config GUI?

Possibly - I dont use Whonix and I can uncheck this.

It is a stupid bug.

I never presume to speak for the Qubes team.
When I comment in the Forum I speak for myself.

Anybody know what Upgradable means in the Template Manager?

“Upgradable” means you have the template installed but there is a newer full rebuild of the template that you could install, replacing the existing one. (If you do install the new one you’ll want to follow that with a template update through the usual mechanism.) To see how much newer the “upgrade” template is, you can compare the dates in the Version or Build fields in Qubes Template Manager between the Status = Installed and the Status = Upgradable rows of the template you’re interested in.

My impression is generally you don’t need to install the newly built templates. Just a regular template update is fine to keep you up to date. If you’re installing a newly built template (Status: Upgradable → Upgrade) you’d probably have a prior reason for doing it.

I’ve never seen the case you’re describing, an “Available” template also being “Upgradable”. I’ve only seen “Upgradable” for “Installed” templates.

You caught a typo. Mine are “Installed” and “Upgradable”, not “Available” and “Upgradable”.

Are whonix-gateway-17 and whonix-workstation-17 really Community testing templates? I’m not sure if that’s part of the bug referenced above.

What does @commandline in the repository field indicate?

On my workstation the “Installed” whonix-gateway-17 and whonix-workstation-17 have Repository = qubes-templates-community-testing and the “Upgradable” *-17 are also qubes-templates-community-testing. I agree that’s surprising/unintuitive. Maybe someone else will chime in to explain why not qubes-templates-itl.

I think effectively this means those templates were installed during your initial Qubes OS install.
