I purchased the Lenovo X-230 form Germany that uses a USB key to allow boot-up. But since I don’t feel the need for this much security, is it possible to remove the need to use a USB to boot-up and just boot-up like any other laptop?
Any advice welcome.
Do you mean the NitroPad X230 ?
If yes: I assume that the Nitokey only contains the key for the LUKS partition to decrypt it, this can be changed quite easily. However, it might be advisable to write to the manufacturer support and ask and to make backups in case something goes wrong. Unfortunately I can’t guarantee if it really works that way, I can only assume it because I haven’t dealt with these things yet.
If something should go wrong when removing the key or if no e.g. password for the encrypted partition was used as a replacement, you can lose access to your data completely.

Thanks for your response. I have figured out a way to be able to circumvent the need for the Nitokey to get into Qubes, so I guess my concerns are answered.
