First, I searched for the corrupted files, and they were displayed to me. Then I selected these files one by one and realized that they weren’t corrupted after all. My goal was to remove the corrupted files first and then remove the duplicate files—not to end up with only the corrupted files remaining.
How can I then compare the files with the same content? And then delete them so that only one of the duplicate files remains on the hard drive.
It doesn’t matter what these files are named—“copy 1, copy 2, copy 1, etc.”—or if they’ve been renamed.
I’ve tried this several times already, but it isn’t working properly. I’ve also tried different settings, but that hasn’t helped much either.
Could you please give some more context? What corrupted, what duplicate files are we talking about here?
And:
- How did you search for them?
- How did you realize they were not corrupted?
- What does “I’ve tried this several times already” mean?
- What is not working properly?
- What “settings” are you changing? Where do you find them?
Most important, why will you not provide sufficient information in your
first post? There is little benefit in other users having to guess what
you might be talking about.
I used these two programs:
- Czkawka
- dupeGuru
These are my own files; I have about 200 GB of them. I wanted to reduce their size a bit to free up more storage space.
- Czkawka
I used it to search for corrupted files.
However, the results ultimately showed me that these files weren’t actually corrupted.
- dupeGuru
In the end, it turned out that the duplicate files were still there.
I’m not sure what mistake I might have made.
Thank you.
You have not answered these question:
“Could you please give some more context? What corrupted, what duplicate
files are we talking about here?”
You have not said where these files are to be found - in dom0? in a single
qube? in multiple qubes?
I am not familiar with the programs you mention. I would use fdupes or
rdfind: both are easy to use and configure, and in my experience,
reliable.
I never presume to speak for the Qubes team.
When I comment in the Forum I speak for myself.
